| Home PeopleServices Music Building Appeal Links | We are in the middle of a major refurbishment project. Phase 1 was completed in June 2001 at a cost of approximately £1 M.This phase consisted of retiling of the main roof in green Westmorland slate (the original material), replacing all the rainwater system at the roof level, and renovation of the fleche, including the copper covering and decorations. At the same time the massive wooden reredos at the East end of the church has been cleaned. The building work was coordinated and carried out by Kilby and Gayford, under the architects Caroe and Partners. Phase 2 - the reroofing of the South aisle and restoration of the South Clerestory windows was completed in 2004 at a cost of about £200,000. The extererior calvary was also restored. Generous grants were received from English Heritage, the Heritage Lottery fund, Kensington and Chelsea Environmental Ltd, the Listed Places of Worship grant scheme and the Garfield Weston foundation. The deficit was funded by an additional loan of £25,000 from the London Diocesan Fund. Phase 3 - the reroofing of the North aisle and restoration of the North clerestory windows was completed in 2007. Associated renovation of brickwork and repointing is not yet complete. This work cost approximately £250,000. We wish to thank the following generous benefactors for contributions:
In January 2003 our Hunter organ was restored by Shepherd and Sons at cost of about £30,000 covered largely by a loan from the London Diocesan Fund. In July 2007 substantial damage was caused to the organ by flooding following torrential rain and the inability of the drainage system to remove the rainwater. The consequent repair work is in progress.
